Disney+ Unveils 'Hyperknife': A Thrilling Medical Drama Starring Park Eun-bin and Seol Kyung-gu
'Hyperknife' stars Park Eun-bin and Seol Kyung-gu in a gripping tale of a complex mentor-student relationship.
On November 21, The Walt Disney Company (Disney) APAC hosted the 'Disney Content Showcase 2024' at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. The event featured top global stars from the U.S. and the Asia-Pacific region, previewing theatrical releases and streaming content slated for 2025-2026.
On the second day, November 21, Disney revealed its lineup of Disney General Entertainment and original content from Korea and Japan. Actors took the stage for brief introductions. The Disney+ series 'Hyperknife,' starring Park Eun-bin and Seol Kyung-gu, is a medical thriller set to premiere in March next year. It follows the story of Seok (played by Park Eun-bin), a once-promising genius doctor, who reunites with her mentor Deok-hee (played by Seol Kyung-gu) after a series of events that led to her downfall. The series explores their intense rivalry and psychological battles.
Park Eun-bin stated, "This will be Disney+'s first medical thriller. The genre is complex, and the character development is unique. It will offer a sensory experience like no other." She added, "You will enjoy the intriguing relationship between me and senior actor Seol Kyung-gu."
Seol Kyung-gu described the series as one where "each character has their own charm, but their true nature is revealed when they clash. They hold each other by the leash, harboring both affection and hatred." He emphasized the novelty of the mentor-student relationship portrayed in the series.
Director Kim Jung-hyun shared, "The story is about the conflict and emotional changes between the two characters. It's a drama that presents a new take on the mentor-student dynamic." He added, "I followed their lead rather than directing them, and they delivered performances that pushed boundaries." Seol Kyung-gu noted, "Our work doesn't aim to teach lessons. It's about the intriguing emotions between a mentor and a student. The direct dialogue and the hidden depths of their animosity will be fascinating."
Park Eun-bin mentioned, "We aimed to create a unique synergy in our peculiar mentor-student relationship. Viewers will be curious about why these two characters are the way they are, and all questions will be answered by the end." She added, "As you deduce the psychological changes, you'll experience a new sensation and a strange catharsis."
Director Kim highlighted, "Enjoy the genre-specific thrills of 'Hyperknife' and reflect on whether you've ever loved and hated someone so intensely."
The 'Disney Content Showcase 2024,' held over two days, introduced upcoming theatrical releases and streaming content for 2025 and beyond. The event featured previews and exclusive footage from Disney Creative Studios, along with new Korean and Japanese content. Over 500 journalists and partners from 12 Asia-Pacific countries, including Korea, attended the event.
