Disney Unveils 'Trigger': A Thrilling Investigative Drama Starring Kim Hye-soo and Jung Sung-il
Kim Hye-soo and Jung Sung-il take on the roles of investigative journalists in 'Trigger,' a drama that promises to deliver cathartic thrills as they chase down villains.
On November 21, The Walt Disney Company Asia Pacific (APAC) hosted the 'Disney Content Showcase 2024' at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. The event offered a sneak peek at upcoming theatrical releases and streaming content for 2025-2026, featuring top global stars from the U.S. and the APAC region.
On the second day of the event, Disney unveiled its lineup of Disney General Entertainment and original content from Korea and Japan. Actors took to the stage for brief introductions. Directed by Yoo Sung-dong, 'Trigger' follows an investigative reporting team that seeks justice through the lens of a camera, even when they have nowhere left to turn. The team faces the daunting task of solving a 20-year-old cold case involving a famous actor who vanished without a trace.
Director Yoo describes 'Trigger' as a story about investigative journalists who relentlessly pursue villains that even the police and prosecutors can't catch, bringing their stories to light through the camera. He promises a drama that offers both catharsis and a deep sense of humanity.
Kim Hye-soo shared her thoughts on her role, saying, "I was drawn to the distinct and intriguing story that isn't overly heavy. My character, Oh So-ryong, is a professional and passionate investigative journalist with a quirky charm." She added, "While filming, I focused on portraying the character with authenticity and freedom, without weighing her down. Our drama tackles social issues and serious crimes but maintains a lighthearted tone. It offers wit, sincerity, and catharsis all at once. I worked hard to balance wit and authenticity." Jung Sung-il discussed his character, saying, "I had many conversations with the director about the character, who is introverted and prefers his own space." He also praised Kim Hye-soo, stating, "I learned why she is one of the most respected actresses in Korea. She is not only an amazing actress but also a wonderful person. She deserves even more respect than people realize." Kim Hye-soo responded to Jung's compliments with a shy smile, bringing laughter to the audience.
The 'Disney Content Showcase 2024,' held over two days, introduced upcoming theatrical releases and streaming content for 2025 and beyond. The event featured previews and exclusive footage from Disney's global creative studios, along with new Korean and Japanese content. Over 500 journalists and partners from 12 APAC countries, including Korea, attended the event.
