Singer Ben Opens Up About Divorce Decision Six Months After Giving Birth
Singer Ben has candidly shared her reasons for deciding to divorce just six months after giving birth. On the TV Chosun show 'Now Alone' aired on the 12th, Ben opened up about her feelings regarding the divorce. In 2021, at the height of her career, Ben suddenly decided to get married. She had publicly announced her relationship with Lee Wook, chairman of the W Foundation, in September 2019 and announced their marriage in August the following year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they registered their marriage first and began their married life. In March of last year, they welcomed their first daughter, completing their family.
Reflecting on her marriage at the age of 29, Ben recalled, "The first year was sweet," but admitted, "Conflicts began to arise, and we fought a lot." She added, "I felt like I became an easy person," and confessed, "I didn't marry for love, but I didn't expect it to be this hard."
Holding her daughter, Ben shared, "I always wanted a sibling when I was young, so I loved babies," and expressed her desire to marry early and have a child quickly. Exhausted from frequent arguments, she decided to let go of everything and took a trip, during which her daughter Ria was born in February last year. Three years into her marriage, in February this year, Ben faced a breakup with her husband. She explained, "When you have a baby, you try to be happy and think positively," adding, "I felt like my daughter came to save me, so her nickname was 'Angel.'" Ben revealed that she decided to divorce six months after giving birth, stating, "I made up my mind to divorce when my baby was six months old." She cautiously added, "Who gets married thinking they will divorce? I never thought divorce would be part of my life."
The mention of her husband's fault in the divorce drew significant attention. During a physically challenging time, Ben stated, "Having my daughter gave me the courage to divorce," and emphasized, "In the house I grew up in, lying was the worst thing." She added, "Trust crumbled," and realized, "After having the baby, I couldn't maintain the marriage any longer." Ben stressed that her decision to end the marriage was for her child's happiness. Ben revealed, "I decided to divorce because I couldn't raise my child in a complete family," sharing her inner thoughts. When Park Mi-sun asked if deciding to divorce six months after childbirth was difficult, Ben replied, "This wasn't the first crisis," and admitted, "I was scared and tried to overcome it." She explained, "With my daughter, the same routine played out, and I realized I needed to be happy and whole to take responsibility for her, but that wasn't the family I dreamed of."
Six months after giving birth, in a physically and emotionally challenging situation, Ben tearfully admitted, "I tried my best," and poignantly stated, "The worst thing is lying." She shared, "I lived a desolate life and experienced depression for the first time," adding, "I was in a state of giving up, and even though I decided to divorce, it wasn't easy." She expressed her pain, saying, "I felt like I wasn't there, like I had died," and feared she wouldn't return to herself. Ben reflected on the mentally challenging moments and crises she faced, stating, "I believe my baby saved me." She explained, "I wanted to take responsibility for this child, and I thought it was a choice for our happiness," adding, "I decided it was enough." Her parents provided support during the crisis, and she shared, "I feel like I've overcome a lot of hardships now," and expressed, "I'm very happy now."
Ben expressed her desire to live happily and fun with her daughter, saying, "I want to start a new chapter with the mindset of living happily and having fun." She added, "I want to live like friends and sisters with my daughter and be a reliable friend and mother she can depend on."
