Kim Sung-cheol Joins 'Hellbound 2': Shares Excitement and Insights on His Role
Kim Sung-cheol expressed his excitement about joining 'Hellbound 2'.
On the 21st, a production presentation for Netflix's series 'Hellbound' Season 2 was held at JW Marriott Dongdaemun Square Seoul in Jongno-gu, Seoul. The event was attended by actors Kim Hyun-joo, Kim Sung-cheol, Kim Shin-rok, Lim Sung-jae, Moon So-ri, Moon Geun-young, director Yeon Sang-ho, and writer Choi Gyu-seok.
'Hellbound' Season 2 revolves around the resurrected New Truth Society's Chairman Jung Jin-soo and Park Jung-ja, as lawyer Min Hye-jin, the New Truth Society, and the Arrowhead faction become entangled in new conflicts.
Kim Sung-cheol takes on the role of the resurrected first chairman of the New Truth Society, Jung Jin-soo. Kim shared, “I enjoyed Season 1 and am a fan of the director. I was happy to work together on Season 2.” He added, “The character Jung Jin-soo is charming, and I was happy while acting. The results will soon be out, but you will meet a three-dimensional and attractive character. It's fun,” expressing confidence in the project.
Kim explained, “I thought about what kind of form a person constantly oppressed by pain and fear in hell would take. After resurrection, I tried to express Jung Jin-soo as someone fundamentally oppressed and chased by something. I thought about having a fearful gaze.”
Kim, who is humorously referred to as 'sexy', shyly admitted, “I have never acted with that in mind.” Celebrating his 10th year since debut, Kim said, “Ten years feel short. I want to continue acting healthily. The sense of responsibility may vary depending on the role, but there is no big difference from when I debuted. I will continue to strive. Striving Jung Jin-soo,” he smiled.
In Season 1, the character Jung Jin-soo was played by Yoo Ah-in. Director Yeon commented, “Kim Sung-cheol was frequently mentioned as a talented actor of the same age group for the role of Jung Jin-soo. What I liked most was that he resembled the original comic's Jung Jin-soo. When I met Kim Sung-cheol, I felt his energy. I thought it could be a double-edged sword role, but he gave a strong impression that he could do it well.” He continued, “After that, I went to see a musical featuring Kim Sung-cheol, and the energy he showed was tremendous. There aren't many double castings in musicals. Kim Sung-cheol does a lot of musicals, and I felt this wasn't a special situation for him. Rather, I trusted Kim Sung-cheol.”
Kim emphasized, “I styled my hair close to the original. If there is an original work, I have a desire to implement it. Whether it's a novel, webtoon, or animation, if there's a model, I used to be afraid when I was young, but as I worked on modeled things, I developed a desire to maximize and implement them. There was such a desire in 'Hellbound 2' as well. I tried to show a voice and expression as close to Jung Jin-soo as possible.”
'Hellbound' Season 2 will be released on Netflix on the 25th.
