Pungja Opens Up About Family Matters on 'Radio Star'
Pungja recently opened up about her family matters.
On the 878th episode of MBC's variety show 'Radio Star,' which aired on the 21st, Park Kalin, Seo Dong-joo, Pungja, and Um Ji-yoon appeared in a special episode titled 'Single Night Live (SNL).' Kim Gura asked Pungja, "Last year was full of good things for you, but was the end of the year filled with tears?" Pungja replied, "I thought I would only have reasons to smile after receiving the Rookie Award. However, contrary to my expectations, it was filled with reasons to cry." Pungja shared, "After the award, I checked my phone and saw a message from my father. It said, 'Congratulations and you've worked hard. I'm sorry I couldn't be of help. Live proudly.' The heartfelt message brought a flood of emotions." She continued, "My siblings are not interested in my broadcasts. They often said, 'I don't understand why you're funny.' I even joked with them, saying, 'You are the biggest haters of my life.' But right after I got off the stage, my sibling contacted me, saying, 'I'm proud of you.' The Rookie Award allowed me to understand my family's true feelings, making last year's end special." Pungja also mentioned that she visited her mother's grave through 'The Manager.' She said, "It's been over 20 years since she passed away. My appearance now is very different from when she was alive, so it was very difficult to visit. Even though it's a child visiting a parent, countless thoughts crossed my mind."
She added, "This is the life I chose. I wanted to visit her when I felt confident. One of the most heartbreaking things is that there are no photos of my mother. My siblings don't even know what she looks like. The longing was so great that I decided to visit her this time. Calling 'Mom' after 20 years was overwhelming." Pungja concluded, "Before the broadcast, many people would tell me to stop eating and lose weight when they saw me. But after the show, they would come up to me and hold my hands without saying anything," drawing attention.
