Jeon So-ni “I’m happy that ‘Parasite’ ranked first globally”
Jeon Sony met with Ten Asia at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul and told various stories about the Netflix original series 'Parasite: The Gray' (hereinafter referred to as 'Parasite').
'Parasite', which is based on the Japanese cartoon of the same name, tells the story of parasitic creatures trying to expand their power by using humans as hosts, and the dedicated team 'The Gray' trying to stop them. This is the new work of Yeon Sang-ho, who became a director with 10 million millionaires with the movie 'Train to Busan'. In the play, Jeon So-ni plays the role of a prisoner who has a strange symbiosis with the parasitic beast 'Heidi', and gave a passionate performance that goes back and forth between two personalities.
'Parasite', which was released on the 5th, is receiving a positive response, ranking first globally in the Netflix TV category upon release. In response, Jeon So-ni said, "This is the first time I've heard so many people say that they enjoyed it. It's my first time acting like this, so I was nervous and excited to see how people would react, but I think they accepted it more comfortably than I thought. I never knew I was this happy to hear that they enjoyed it." “I was so happy and felt good,” he said.
He added, "This is the first time that a work has been released globally, so I've even been contacted by friends who live overseas. It's amazing to hear that the response has been good."
When Jeon So-ni first decided to appear, she didn't know that she would also be doing Heidi's voice. He said, "I knew the original work, so before hearing how Heidi would be embodied, I thought about what kind of chemistry I could create with the voice actor who would voice Heidi." He added, "Heidi started eating Suin's head and then stopped, so I did the voice acting. “When it was decided that I would be doing it, I was very scared. I was worried about how I could separate the two, and I thought I had to make the human beast as good as possible.”
How did you create Heidi’s voice tone? Jeon So-ni said, "I wanted it to be an uncomfortable voice. An overly friendly guidance tone, or a childlike tone that doesn't know anything. I gave it with uncomfortable tones in mind, but when you look at it more broadly, I'm not the only one who appears as a parasite. I guess I'm not the only one who appears as a parasite. “I thought it would be good to have something in common, and in the end, I practiced and followed what the director decided,” he explained.
“The director asked me to keep my voice as low as possible. I got a lot of things like the rhythm of my speech from watching monitors of other parasites.”
'Parasite' ends with the appearance of Shinichi (Masaki Suda), the main character of the Japanese movie 'Parasite'. Jeon So-ni said, "I said that if Season 1 goes well, Season 2 will come out, but I'm curious as to whether that will come true or not. I think Su-in needs to be with the Gray Team for the story to progress." She added, "If it goes to Season 2, “I hope Suin will be able to meet Shinichi,” he said.
He added, "When I looked at the script, it was thrilling that it ended with Shinichi appearing and showing his hand. I wondered how he came up with this idea."
