Kang Soo-yeon left after not being able to see ‘Jeong-i’
A behind-the-scenes look at the filming site of the late Kang Soo-yeon's Netflix movie 'Jeong-i' was revealed, leaving a touching impression.
On the 25th, Netflix posted a video titled 'Remembering Kang Soo-yeon' on Netflix Korea's official YouTube channel.
In the video, Kang Soo-yeon appeared by introducing herself, saying, “I'm Kang Soo-yeon, who played the role of Seohyun in 'Jeong-i.' Nice to meet you.”
'Jeong-i', which was released on the 20th, is a science fiction film that tells the story of people who try to develop the best combat AI by cloning the brain of the legendary mercenary Jeong-i in order to end the war that broke out in the shelter where they moved out of the ruined Earth due to rapid climate change. It is a work by director Yeon Sang-ho, and is also the posthumous work of Kang Soo-yeon. Kang Soo-yeon passed away in May last year before 'Jeong-i' was finally released. Kang Soo-yeon played Yoon Seo-hyeon, a team leader at a research center developing brain cloning and AI technology, in 'Jungi'.
Director Yeon Sang-ho said, "The moment I thought of Kang Soo-yeon, I suddenly wanted to do this work called 'Jeong-i'." He also said, “I think I had a great desire to work with Kang Soo-yeon in a work called 'Jeong-i' because I thought Kang Soo-yeon's acting was the core of this work called 'Jeong-i.'” At the same time, he thought of Kang Soo-yeon, saying, “I often thought, ‘She seems to be enjoying being on set.’”
Kim Hyun-joo confessed, "I was nervous when I heard that I could work with senior Kang Soo-yeon. She was my dream senior." He also said, “I think it's a joy to be able to see the acting of actress Kang Soo-yeon again after a long time.” Ryu Kyung-soo said, "What I felt while talking and filming together was, 'I want to become an adult like Kang Soo-yeon.'"
At the filming site, Kang Soo-yeon was immersed in the character and shed tears and expressed anger. When the camera was turned off, he joked and laughed with his juniors, and even hugged them, showing his warm senior side.
Kang Soo-yeon, who passed away without seeing the finished product, laughed in the video, saying, "I think I worked hard to film it well, but I'm probably most curious about what the finished product will look like in the end ."
Director Yeon Sang-ho said, "Working with senior Kang Soo-yeon in the work 'Jeong-i' has become an unforgettable memory for me. As an actor, I think the best way to remember senior Kang Soo-yeon is to watch movies in which she appeared. “I hope you can see it from that perspective and remember it.”
Netflix paid tribute to her by writing at the end of the video, “We remember actress Kang Soo-yeon.”
