Kim Jong-guk was mistaken for ‘rare criminal’ Shin Chang-won
Profilers Pyo Chang-won and Kwon Il-yong appeared as guests on KBS 2TV's entertainment show 'Problem Son of the Rooftop', which aired on the night of the 15th.
Pyo Chang-won revealed something in common with Shin Chang-won, a criminal who shook Korea as a rare prison escapee. He said, "I was very naughty when I was young. I once touched my mother's wallet. I was scolded and scolded, and my father was extremely strict. After discipline, he gave me generous love and trust. 'There is always a sense of justice in your heart,' and 'I reflected.' “There was a warmth that said, ‘Don’t make that mistake again,’” he recalled.
Pyo Chang-won continued, "On the other hand, looking at Shin Chang-won's growth process, his mother passed away when he was young, and he was raised only with strong discipline and corporal punishment. Once, Shin Chang-won was selling watermelons in the neighborhood, and when the owner asked, 'How can you raise a child?', his father immediately said, “I took him to the police station, and he said that was the first time he went to a juvenile detention center. If I had had warm love, maybe I could have lived a different life.”
Song Eun-i found something in common, saying, “Now that I think about it, Shin Chang-won and Pyo Chang-won have the same names.” Kim Jong-guk, who heard this, also said, "When I was wanted in the past, I was also searched because I looked like Shin Chang-won. There was a lot of chaos and people pounding on cars. As I was going over Namtaeryeong Hill from the shrine, riot police came running. I was wearing a hat and our faces were similar." He expressed his resentment, saying, "I thought they thought I was Shin Chang-won." In response, Pyo Chang-won looked at Kim Jong-guk's face and said, "We really look alike. They agreed, saying, “The face shape, the nose and the eyes are similar.” However, the two pointed out a stark difference, saying, “Jongkook has a kind smile.”
On this day, a heated debate took place over ‘who is Korea’s first profiler?’ Pyo Chang-won pointed to Kwon Il-yong, saying, "I was working as a detective and went to study in the UK, and when I came back, profiling had already been introduced in Korea." He continued, "But at the time, I was exposed to more broadcasts than Kwon Il-yong, so I think I was known as No. 1. “He answered humbly. However, Kwon Il-yong soon made everyone laugh by saying, “There’s a lot of talk about who is the number one profiler, but Pyo Chang-won can’t even play games.”
Pyo Chang-won revealed that he was once embroiled in rumors that his best friend Kwon Il-yong, who was of the same age, was rude due to his presbyopic appearance. Kwon Il-yong recalled the first time he met Pyo Chang-won at the National Police Agency around 1999, and said, "I asked my colleagues who he was, and they said he was a worthless person." In response, Pyo Chang-won launched a fierce counterattack, saying, "I thought Kwon Il-yong was a senior. He seemed stubborn, so I felt like a 'human bulldog.'" Next, Pyo Chang-won said, "I called him 'Ilyong-ah' because we were the same age, but later a rumor spread around me that 'Professor Pyo is a rude person.'" He made people burst into laughter by showing their constant bickering.
