Cho Si-won's painting, sold at 6.4 million won

In the second episode of KBS2's art variety show 'No Money, No Art', which aired on the 30th, four new art artists - Kang Chun-hyuk, Islo, Jo Si-won and Woo Hyun-min - took the stage and introduced their unique works as well as unconventional works. The method was revealed in detail, capturing the hearts of art enthusiasts.
On this day's broadcast, art artist Seul-lo Lee, who holds the titles of 'box-office seller' and 'golden artist', was the first to go on stage with art curator Kim Min-kyung. Lee Seul-lo, who captured popularity by collaborating with Oh My Girl's album cover, an amusement park tulip festival, and a famous donut brand, introduced 'Lo is Nothing', which stands out for its unique innocence and freedom, stimulating art collectors' desire to own it.
Next, Kang Chun-hyuk, a North Korean defector who risked his life to cross the line, appeared paired with Gaeko. Author Kang Chun-hyuk captured attention with his intuitive charm by revealing 'Different but the same', which states that we are connected as one even in the midst of division. This work was created by joining two canvases into one, and was evaluated as a good reflection of the artist's clear intention.
Next, Woo Hyun-min, a self-taught artist from the idol group Daeguknam-A, came out with Monica. Woo Hyun-min, who uses the 'collage' technique rather than painting, created the feeling of 'armor' by using clothes and objects that were actually worn in the work 'Escape' presented on this day. After the work was revealed, he said, "I have a natural color combination." Compliments continued.
Lastly, Jo Si-won, who appeared with Bong Tae-gyu, carefully revealed that he was “diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer and is fighting the disease.” “The moment I came out of the hospital after a long hospitalization, the warm sunlight that greeted me seemed to symbolize hope,” he said, revealing ‘Hope’, which contains a message of hope by projecting the light of the sun reflected in the eyes. Bong Tae-gyu explained the value of the collection as “a work that contains the artist’s most personal situation,” saying, “Artist Jo Si-won did not let go of his paintings even during anti-cancer treatment, so he is now in much better shape.” This was followed by a 'close-up gallery' where art collectors could see the works up close, and as a result of the first round of voting, first place in the intermediate rankings for the final auction went to artist Cho Si-won.
Afterwards, four artists participated in a 'live drawing show' to appeal to art collectors. Singer Kim Yeon-ja made a surprise appearance on stage and revealed the day's theme, 'Amor Party (Love Your Destiny)', and the four people completed the work by filling the canvas in an instant for 20 minutes. Woo Hyun-min, who immediately took off the shoes and socks he was wearing and fixed them on the canvas in a dynamic shape, received applause as he explained, "It captures the image of taking the first step into the world of canvas and pioneering a new path." Kang Chun-hyuk, who showed a perfect drawing with a brush pen, gave a thrill by depicting his self-portrait erasing the 38 lines.
In the second half of the live drawing show, Lee Seul-lo, who dominated the scene by showing off his 'new technique of brushing with both hands', said, "Once the frustration of small failures passed, it became a beautiful experience," and showed off a painting beautifully decorated with broken glass pieces. Lastly, Cho Si-won drew the admiration of MC Jeon Hyun-moo, who said, “It can’t be this intense,” with a painting that highlights the rough texture of each art material. Writer Jo Si-won explained, “I captured myself trying to overcome difficult situations through prayer and the people who supported me.”
Finally, the art collectors' final selection was made. As a result, Cho Si-won's 'HOPE' was selected as the final work to be auctioned. Bidding began with Jeon Hyun-moo hosting the auction, and after fierce competition among three art collectors, the work was sold for 6.1 million won, nearly twice the initial auction price of 3.2 million won.
The art collector who chose Jo Si-won's work said, "As soon as I saw the work, I felt a strong energy, and that energy did not go away even as time passed," and gave encouragement to Jo Si-won, saying, "I hope you don't give up hope until the end and see the light." . Jo Si-won also responded, “I have to go back to the hospital after the recording is over, but like (the art collector) said, I will do my best to receive treatment and repay you with better works.”
‘No Money, No Art’ airs every Thursday at 9:50 PM.
