Gyeon Mi-ri's husband found not guilty of stock price manipulation

Legal experts have provided interpretations regarding the controversy over singer and actor Lee Seung-gi's in-laws.

In the released video, it was highlighted that Lee Seung-gi recently posted an explanation on various controversies surrounding his wife's family through his SNS. Lee Seung-gi claimed that his father-in-law Lee Hong-heon's stock price manipulation incident was a clear misinformation, and directly mentioned the real names of some reporters who reported on this.

Lee Hong-heon, actor Lee Da-in's stepfather and Gyeon Mi-ri's husband, was sentenced to three years in prison for violating the Capital Markets Act in 2011 and was released on parole in 2014.

In addition, he was indicted on separate charges of stock price manipulation in 2016. In the first trial, the court sentenced Lee Hong-heon to four years in prison and a fine of 2.5 billion won, but he was found not guilty in the second trial. Currently, we are awaiting the Supreme Court ruling.

In response, announcer Son Moon-seon, the host of the channel, asked, "The fact that he was found guilty in the first trial means he is not guilty at all. Can't he be seen as irrelevant?"

Attorney Jeong Hye-jin, who heard this, said, "Criminal trials are viewed more strictly than civil trials with the aim of not creating a single unjust victim. Even when it seems like a crime to us, there are cases where a not guilty verdict is found in a criminal trial. The results of the first and second trials are the same. He pointed out, “The fact that there is a difference is actually a situation that cannot be considered innocent at all.”

However, he said, “The story of embezzlement of 26 billion won and 300,000 victims is a very exaggerated story.”
