The 'real' reason why Lee Do-hyun broke up with his lover and cut ties with his mother
In the 9th episode of JTBC's Wednesday-Thursday drama 'Bad Mother', which aired on the 24th, the story of Kang-ho (Lee Do-hyun), who became a cold-blooded prosecutor with his own secret, was drawn. Kang-ho hates and resents Yeong-soon (played by Ra Mi-ran), but eventually decides to become a judge, just as his bad mother wished. He realized why and what he had to become a prosecutor only after he entered law school. It was for revenge against those who drove his father Hae-shik (Cho Jin-woong) to an unfair death and thoroughly ruined his mother Young-soon's life.
On this day, the identity of the SD card found by Youngsoon was revealed. Kang-ho, who was preparing for revenge against Tae-soo (played by Jung Woong-in), left a letter in preparation for a personal threat. The vast records stored in the SD card made us guess why Kang Ho had no choice but to become a cold-blooded prosecutor from the time he entered college until the accident. Among them, there was a decisive day that changed Kang Ho. While Kang-ho was in law school, he got into a fight over the sexual manipulation of a student whose mother was an incumbent judge and preferential treatment for scholarships. As a prospective judge, he was worried that it would be a stain on Kang-ho.
Kang-ho was angry at the unfair and unjust reality. But to Youngsoon, “That was what Mom wanted. Becoming a cowardly snob who does not choose any means for the purpose,” he reluctantly knelt down and begged. At that moment, Kang-ho could understand the meaning of the boring nagging to become a judge and prosecutor, why he came to law school now, and what he had to do. And the first thing to do was to find the court records and judgments related to his father's death.
As soon as I became a prosecutor, I checked the trial record, and as soon as the appointment ceremony was over, I also requested the investigation record again. While comparing the scene photos and the autopsy photos at the time, he found a crucial difference. As Youngsoon questioned in the past, there were no traces of resistance in the scene photos, but someone's fingernail marks were suddenly found in the autopsy photos. The detective in charge, who had been ignoring it, confessed the truth after Kang-ho's questioning. It was shocking that it was the order of the prosecutor in charge, not Hae-shi, the prime suspect in the farm arson and murder of his father. This was the reason why Kang-ho approached Tae-soo using Ha-yeong (played by Hong Bira). It was the same when he took on the 'Woo Mi-jeong case', in which Jae-min (Yoo Jeong-hoo), the grandson of Woo-byeok (Choi Moo-seong), was involved.
As Tae-soo turned from the Woobyeok Group to the Dosang Group, there were setbacks in his revenge, but it was a blessing in disguise. It was at this time that Tae-soo, who was aiming for the presidency, learned of the existence of Soo-hyeon (played by Ki Eun-se) and a child who would be a fatal blow. He made Suhyeon on his side and secured confidential data and genetic test results of the Woobyuk Group. It was a lie when Woo-byeok and Tae-soo told him that they killed Su-hyeon and the child. With the help of the owner of a raw fish restaurant (Seong Nak-kyung), whom he has been close to for a long time, Kang-ho helped the two to escape from Tae-soo. However, Kang-ho himself could not be relieved after learning Tae-soo's secret. Following Mi-joo (played by Ahn Eun-jin), all the stories of Young-soon and Young-soon having to choose to be strangers were revealed, adding to the sadness.
Above all, in Kang-ho's last letter, we could confirm his sincerity toward Young-soon. The case of Hae-shik, whose statute of limitations had expired, was meaningless to Kang-ho. With the narration, 'What I really wanted to revenge was the life of a mother who was thoroughly ruined by them, the pain of having to live as a bad mother to the son I love the most in the world' The sight of young Kang-ho brought tears to his eyes.
Tears flowed endlessly when Youngsoon finally learned about Kangho's 'Big Picture'. It was Yeong-soon who dreamed of making Kang-ho a judge and prosecutor more than anyone else, but she was worried about how dangerous revenge would be. Youngsoon burned all documents and SD cards so that Kangho could never go back. “The revenge I take when I am broken is not revenge. Real revenge is to forget the reason why you want revenge and live well as if you were proud of it.”
The epilogue, released right after the ending, hinted at the death of Soo-hyeon and her child, who tried to smuggle away from Tae-soo.
