KATSEYE Captivates Coachella with a Dynamic 5-Member Performance
On April 11, KATSEYE performed at the 'Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival' held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California.
The group performed as a five-member unit due to the absence of member Manon, who has been on hiatus since February for health reasons. Speculation about her departure arose when she removed the group's name from her personal social media bio on April 3. Despite no official statement, the Coachella performance went on.
Amidst cheers, KATSEYE showcased their signature synchronized choreography, a hallmark of K-pop groups. The catchy chorus of 'PINKY UP' features a distinctive pinky finger gesture, which the audience eagerly mimicked.
After their opening performance, KATSEYE greeted the crowd, saying, "We will never forget tonight. We finally made it here." They encouraged the audience to sing along as they continued with 'Mean Girls' and 'Touch.'
The real-life vocalists of the film's fictional girl group Huntrix made a surprise appearance. EJAE, Ray Ami, and Audrey Nuna joined the stage one by one, delighting the audience with their unexpected presence. Together with KATSEYE, they harmonized to complete the performance, ending with warm embraces.
KATSEYE asked the audience to turn on their phone flashlights for the 'My Way' performance. They introduced the song as an anthem for living life on one's own terms, making mistakes, seizing opportunities, and not just following orders, inviting the crowd to sing along.
After the performance, the members expressed their gratitude, saying, "This is the stage we've dreamed of since we were two years old. It was a special moment." Lara added, "To my brown girls and South Asian friends, I want to say I love you. Anything is possible. I hope to inspire you. Thank you," emphasizing the importance of music and diversity.
Following KATSEYE, more K-pop acts are set to perform at Coachella. SHINee's Taemin will take the stage on April 12, followed by Big Bang's three-member reunion on April 13.
