2025 MAMA Awards to Proceed Amidst Hong Kong Tragedy with Support and Donations
The 2025 MAMA Awards will proceed as planned despite a tragic fire in Hong Kong that resulted in significant loss of life.

On the afternoon of the 26th, a massive fire broke out in a high-rise apartment complex in the Tai Po area of northern Hong Kong. The disaster claimed 75 lives, injured 76, and left over 200 people missing. As the city mourns, there were discussions about canceling or postponing the '2025 MAMA Awards' scheduled to take place in Hong Kong.

CJ ENM, the event organizer, expressed deep condolences to the victims of the fire, stating, "We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the families and all those affected by this great loss and uncertainty."

They further announced, "The '2025 MAMA Awards' will incorporate a 'Support Hong Kong' message, providing a moment to share in the sorrow and commemorate the victims. We aim to contribute to victim support through donations, believing in the healing and unifying power of music."

The organizers emphasized their commitment to creating a performance that conveys comfort and hope rather than focusing on extravagant production, stating, "We are carefully preparing the stage and proceedings to ensure the music offers solace and courage to everyone."

Artists attending the event have also joined in the relief efforts. aespa pledged to donate 500,000 Hong Kong dollars (approximately 90 million Korean won), and RIIZE committed 250,000 Hong Kong dollars (about 50 million Korean won) to the Hong Kong Red Cross. Additionally, their agency, SM Entertainment, announced a donation of 1 million Hong Kong dollars (around 190 million Korean won).
