Controversy Surrounds Min Hee-jin's Statements on NewJeans Amid Legal Dispute
The court's recent ruling seems to contradict Min Hee-jin's claims. On September 30, the Seoul Central District Court's Civil Agreement Division 41, led by Judge Jeong Hoi-il, ruled in a lawsuit filed by ADOR against the five members of NewJeans regarding the validity of their exclusive contract. The court stated that Min Hee-jin's actions were aimed at creating public opinion for NewJeans' independence, not for their protection. The court also noted that ADOR's termination of Min Hee-jin did not constitute a breach of contract.
Despite the court's findings, Min Hee-jin has dismissed these conclusions, leading to criticism that she is twisting the narrative to suit her own agenda. Analysts suggest that the NewJeans controversy stems from a fallout between Min Hee-jin and HYBE, with many questioning her motives, suggesting she used NewJeans as a shield for her independence while criticizing HYBE.
She further emphasized, "The core issue targets me, but the children should not be dragged into it. They should be protected and not used. NewJeans exists as five."
Previously, on the 13th, Min Hee-jin stated, "The decision for the members to return together was made after deep consideration and conversation. I respect and support that choice. I can start anew anywhere, but NewJeans should always be preserved as five members."
NewJeans had declared the termination of their exclusive contract with ADOR last November, citing contract violations. However, the court ruled the contract valid. Although NewJeans expressed intent to appeal, they reversed their decision on the 12th, a day before the appeal deadline, opting to return to ADOR.
During this process, members Hae-rin and Hye-in conveyed their intention to return through discussions with their families. ADOR stated, "We respect the court's decision and have decided to adhere to the exclusive contract. We will do our best to ensure Hae-rin and Hye-in can continue their entertainment activities smoothly. We kindly ask for restraint from speculative comments about the members."
In contrast, Min-ji, Hani, and Danielle announced their return through separate channels, stating through their legal representatives that "there was no response from ADOR." ADOR has yet to officially confirm their return.
