NewJeans Faces Crucial Deadline in Contract Dispute with HYBE and ADOR
The K-pop group NewJeans is at a pivotal moment as the deadline approaches for their demands to HYBE and ADOR regarding the termination of their exclusive contract. The industry is closely watching to see if NewJeans will follow former executive Min Hee-jin in leaving ADOR or if they will choose to stay.

On the 13th, NewJeans sent a formal notice to ADOR, demanding rectification of several issues. They have stated that if their demands are not met by the 27th, they will terminate their exclusive contract. This has created a tense atmosphere between NewJeans and ADOR.

In the notice, NewJeans demanded explanations and legal actions regarding a statement in HYBE's music industry report, an official apology from a manager who allegedly told member Hani to 'ignore it,' removal of videos and photos used without consent, assessment and resolution of damages from 'album pushing,' and the return of former executive Min Hee-jin.

However, ADOR has stated that the return of Min Hee-jin is not possible, as she has already left the company. Even if she hadn't, her return is a significant demand that ADOR cannot accept. While other demands might be negotiable, the return of Min Hee-jin has been repeatedly deemed unacceptable, with recent court rulings favoring HYBE's stance. HYBE, adhering to its 'principled response,' has no grounds to reinstate Min Hee-jin as ADOR's executive.

Industry insiders predict that NewJeans may use these issues as grounds to demand contract termination.

However, if NewJeans pursues contract termination against HYBE, they could face astronomical penalties. While the exact amount is uncertain, it was revealed during legal proceedings that the penalties could range from 450 billion to 620 billion KRW if NewJeans terminates their contract with ADOR.

If NewJeans opts for a legal battle to avoid paying penalties, it could result in a court case lasting at least two years, significantly impacting their activities.
