K-Pop Overlooked Again: Grammy Awards 2025 Nominees Announced Without K-Pop Representation
The Grammy Awards have once again overlooked K-Pop for the second consecutive year.
On the 8th (local time), the Recording Academy, which organizes the Grammy Awards, announced the nominees for the 67th Grammy Awards, set to take place in 2025.
The list of nominees did not include any K-Pop artists. BTS, who had been nominated for the Grammy Awards from 2020 to 2022, were notably absent.
They were nominated for the 'Best Pop Duo/Group Performance' category at the 63rd Grammy Awards with 'Dynamite' and at the 64th Grammy Awards with 'Butter'. Additionally, at the 65th Grammy Awards, they were nominated for 'Best Pop Duo/Group Performance' with their collaboration with Coldplay on 'My Universe' and for 'Best Music Video' with 'Yet to Come'. Furthermore, Coldplay's 'Music of the Spheres', which included 'My Universe', was nominated for 'Album of the Year'.
Despite a three-year streak of Grammy nominations, K-Pop has been overlooked since BTS began their military service last year.
Meanwhile, the 67th Grammy Awards continue to see a strong presence of female artists. In the four major categories, female pop artists dominated, with six out of eight nominees for Album and Record of the Year being women.
In the 'Album of the Year' category, nominees include Beyoncé's 'Cowboy Carter', Sabrina Carpenter's 'Short and Sweet', Charli XCX's 'Brat', André 3000's 'New Blue Sun', Jacob Collier's 'Jesse Volume 4', Billie Eilish's 'Hit Me Hard and Soft', Chapel Roan's 'The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess', and Taylor Swift's 'The Tortured Poets Department'.
For 'Record of the Year', nominees include The Beatles' 'Now and Then', Beyoncé's 'Texas Hold'em', Sabrina Carpenter's 'Espresso', Charli XCX's '360', Billie Eilish's 'Birds of a Feather', Kendrick Lamar's 'Not Like Us', Chapel Roan's 'Good Luck, Bebe!', and Taylor Swift's 'Fortnite' (feat. Post Malone).
In the 'Song of the Year' category, nominees include Shaboozey's 'A Bar Song', Billie Eilish's 'Birds of a Feather', Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars' 'Die with a Smile', Taylor Swift's 'Fortnite' (feat. Post Malone), Chapel Roan's 'Good Luck, Bebe!', Kendrick Lamar's 'Not Like Us', Sabrina Carpenter's 'Please Please Please', and Beyoncé's 'Texas Hold'em'.
The 'Best New Artist' category features nominees such as Benson Boone, Sabrina Carpenter, Deutsche, Khruangbin, Raye, Chapel Roan, Shaboozey, and Teddy Swims.
The 67th Grammy Awards will be held on February 2, 2025, in Los Angeles, USA.
