Kim Shin-rok is reaching new heights in her acting career, captivating both the global stage and prestigious award ceremonies.

Director Yeon Sang-ho's new film 'The Hive,' featuring Kim Shin-rok, has been officially invited to the Midnight Screening section of the 79th Cannes Film Festival this May. 'The Hive' is a gripping tale of isolated survivors battling evolving infected beings within a quarantined building during a mysterious outbreak.

In the film, Kim Shin-rok plays 'Choi Hyun-hee,' an IT company employee and sister to Choi Hyun-seok (played by Ji Chang-wook), delivering a compelling performance that anchors the narrative. This invitation marks Kim's first appearance on the Cannes red carpet, where she is expected to leave a lasting impression on the global film community and critics.

Beyond her screen success, Kim has also made significant strides on the theater stage. Her performance in the play 'Prima Facie' last year garnered both audience acclaim and critical praise, earning her a nomination for Best Actress in Theater at the 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards.

'Prima Facie' is a one-woman show that explores the legal and psychological turmoil of a lawyer who becomes a victim of sexual assault. Kim's ability to command the stage with extensive dialogue and intense emotional depth earned her accolades as "an awe-inspiring performance that dominates the stage." This nomination highlights Kim's genuine dedication to her craft, seamlessly transitioning between media and consistently challenging herself.

Kim's global journey doesn't stop there. She has been appointed as the ambassador for the '2026 French Film Week,' a special event showcasing unreleased films praised at major international film festivals. Known for her profound acting and intellectual image, Kim aims to bridge Korean and French cinema through her ambassadorial role. With her Cannes invitation and French Film Week ambassadorship coinciding, Kim is set to solidify her status as a 'global icon.'

In May, Kim Shin-rok will juggle significant domestic and international engagements, including the Cannes Film Festival, Baeksang Arts Awards, and French Film Week promotions. Her wide-ranging acting spectrum across genres and formats continues to draw attention from the industry and audiences alike.

Meanwhile, Kim's Cannes debut film 'The Hive' is set to premiere in South Korea on May 21, following its festival screening, and the 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards ceremony will take place on May 8 at COEX in Seoul.
