Koo Kyo-hwan Eager to Complete 'Seo Villain Trilogy' with 'The Hive'
On the 4th, a production briefing for the movie 'The Hive' (directed by Yeon Sang-ho) was held at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. The event was attended by director Yeon Sang-ho and actors Jun Ji-hyun, Koo Kyo-hwan, Ji Chang-wook, Shin Hyun-bin, Kim Shin-rok, and Go Soo.
'The Hive' is a film about survivors isolated in a building called 'Nest', which is sealed off due to a mysterious infection outbreak. They struggle against infected individuals who evolve in unpredictable ways.
Koo Kyo-hwan plays the role of Dr. Seo Young-chul, a biologist who creates the mysterious virus that causes the outbreak. Having previously worked with director Yeon Sang-ho in 'Peninsula', Koo remarked, "I played Captain Seo Sang-hoon in 'Peninsula'. This time, it's Seo Young-chul. It's the second 'Seo Villain' project. I need to do well this time to make a third one. I approached it with the responsibility to complete the 'Seo Villain Trilogy'," he said with a smile.
Describing his character, Koo said, "Seo Young-chul has his own logic, but no certainty. He tries to find the results within the movie. He encounters variables but has no fear. He does a lot of bad things," he explained. He humorously compared it to a program called 'Curiosity Heaven', saying it's more like 'Curiosity Hell'. He added, "It needs to do well to complete the Seo Trilogy," causing laughter.
Director Yeon commented, "I wonder if I have too many personas. It seems to change with every movie," but added, "This time, I'll go with Koo Kyo-hwan as my persona," expressing his trust in the actor. He praised Koo as "a very free actor" and mentioned, "I knew him well before 'Peninsula'. We are actually close and often talk. What I feel about Koo is that he really loves movies. He's a movie maniac, a comprehensive entertainer maniac. Whether it's movies, dramas, or variety shows, he knows everything, even the old stuff." Koo acknowledged this, calling himself a "culture and arts otaku." Director Yeon lauded him, saying, "I felt how terrifying it is to see someone dominate a film with their acting."
'The Hive' is set to be released in May.
