'The King and the Man' Surpasses 15.73 Million Viewers, Sets New Box Office Record
According to the Korean Film Council's integrated computer network, 'The King and the Man' maintained its top position at the box office on the 31st of last month. The film attracted 55,377 viewers that day, bringing its total audience to 15,731,869. However, this was a decrease of about 5,000 from the previous day.
'The King and the Man' became the 34th film in history to surpass 10 million viewers on the 6th of last month. It also overtook 'Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds' (2017, 14.41 million viewers) to become the third highest-grossing film in history. The all-time number one is 'The Admiral: Roaring Currents' (2014, 17.61 million viewers), followed by 'Extreme Job' (2019, 16.26 million viewers).
Set in Cheongryeongpo in 1457, 'The King and the Man' tells the story of a village chief who voluntarily exiles himself for the prosperity of his village and a young dethroned king in exile. The film stars Yoo Hae-jin, Park Ji-hoon, Yoo Ji-tae, and Jeon Mi-do.
Holding the second spot at the box office is 'Project Hail Mary' directed by Phil Lord, which drew 41,494 viewers, bringing its total to 1,234,723.
'Project Hail Mary' follows the journey of Grace (Ryan Gosling), who wakes up alone in the middle of space with no memory, as he embarks on a final mission to save humanity from an impending apocalypse. The film stars Ryan Gosling and Sandra Wheeler.
In third place is the animation 'Detective Conan: The Last Wizard of the Century' directed by Kenji Kodama, which added 3,342 viewers for a total of 58,989.
Other films in the top five include the animation 'Hoppers' directed by Daniel Chong in fourth place, and 'The Protector' directed by Adrian Grunberg in fifth.
As of 10 a.m. on April 1st, the real-time reservation rankings are 'Project Hail Mary' in first place, 'The King and the Man' in second, and 'Salmoji' in third.
