'The King and the Clown' Surpasses 14.75 Million Viewers, Ranks 3rd in All-Time Box Office
According to the Korean Film Council's integrated computer network for movie tickets, 'The King and the Clown' maintained its number one spot at the box office on the 22nd, drawing 309,390 viewers that day, with a cumulative audience of 14,757,122.
With this achievement, 'The King and the Clown' has overtaken 'Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds' (2017, 14.41 million viewers) to claim the third spot in the all-time box office rankings. The top spot is held by 'Roaring Currents' (2014, 17.61 million viewers), followed by 'Extreme Job' (2019, 16.26 million viewers). 'The King and the Clown' had already become the 34th film in history to surpass 10 million viewers as of the 6th.
Set in 1457 Cheongryeongpo, 'The King and the Clown' tells the story of a village chief who voluntarily exiles himself for the prosperity of his village and a young dethroned king in exile. The film stars Yoo Hae-jin, Park Ji-hoon, Yoo Ji-tae, and Jeon Mi-do.
In second place at the box office is 'Project Hail Mary' directed by Phil Lord, which attracted 160,739 viewers in a day, with a total audience of 561,362.
'Project Hail Mary' follows the journey of Grace (Ryan Gosling), who wakes up alone in the middle of space with no memory, tasked with a final mission to save humanity from an impending apocalypse. The film stars Ryan Gosling and Sandra Wheeler.
Ranking third is the animated film 'Hoppers' directed by Daniel Chong, which drew 39,853 viewers in a day, with a cumulative audience of 646,427.
'Hoppers' is a Pixar animal adventure that follows a girl named Mabel, who becomes a robotic beaver through the 'hopping' technology that transfers human consciousness into animal robots, embarking on an unexpected adventure in the animal world.
Other films in the top five include 'Attack on Titan: The Final Chapter - The Last Attack' directed by Yuichiro Hayashi in fourth place, and 'Method Acting' directed by Lee Ki-hyuk in fifth place.
