'The King and the Man' Surpasses 14.57 Million Viewers, Ranks Third in Box Office History
The film 'The King and the Man' has surpassed 14.57 million viewers.

Distributor Showbox announced on the 22nd, "With the achievement of ranking third in box office history, 'The King and the Man' has surpassed 14.57 million viewers," along with a photo.

The released photo features a historical poster of 'The King and the Man' with a shot of Danjong and Eom Heung-do from the film. The image of the ill-fated young king Danjong and Eom Heung-do, who stayed by his side until the end, evokes emotion.

Additionally, Showbox included an unreleased still of Danjong smiling brightly with villagers in the harsh exile location. Park Ji-hoon's smile, looking up at the sky, contrasts with the film's ending, adding to the poignancy.

Showbox stated, "In 1457, a story that history tried to erase but 14.57 million viewers are recording," adding, "Thanks to the people of 2026, it is no longer lonely."

The year 1457 is historically significant as the year Danjong was dethroned by his uncle Sejo and died in exile. The continued success of 'The King and the Man' aligns with this, as it surpasses 14.57 million cumulative viewers, adding to its significance.

With this achievement, 'The King and the Man' has entered the top three in box office history, with approximately 3.2 million viewers remaining to surpass the all-time highest-grossing film 'The Admiral: Roaring Currents.' There is anticipation to see if 'The King and the Man' can dethrone 'The Admiral: Roaring Currents,' which has held the top spot for 12 years.

Meanwhile, 'The King and the Man' tells the story of Eom Heung-do, a village chief who voluntarily exiles himself to revive the village in Cheongryeongpo in 1457, and the young dethroned king Lee Hong-wi living together. Park Ji-hoon, a former member of the group Wanna One, and actor Yoo Hae-jin star in the film.

Viewers who watched the film commented, "I went in as an audience member and came out as a citizen," and "It feels like the entire nation is holding a funeral for Danjong after 500 years."
