Choi Ji-woo Transforms into a Mother Fighting for Her Son in Upcoming Film 'Sugar'
On the morning of the 18th, a production briefing for 'Sugar' was held at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. Attendees included actors Choi Ji-woo, Min Jin-woong, and Ko Dong-ha. Director Choi Shin-chun was absent due to personal reasons.
'Sugar' is a human drama that tells the miraculous story of a mother who changes the world while struggling to save her young son diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. It marks director Choi Shin-chun's debut in commercial cinema, capturing themes of overcoming societal prejudice, family solidarity, and love beyond maternal instincts.
Min Jin-woong also expressed, "Before 'Sugar', I wasn't aware of the different types of diabetes. Learning about it was heartbreaking. While families need to care for it, there are areas where society should take administrative responsibility and provide support."
Ko Dong-ha explained, "Before preparing and filming this movie, I didn't know much about Type 1 diabetes. I became interested and learned more. During filming, I heard many stories from patients who often suppress their emotions for their families. I tried to express that."
Choi Ji-woo concluded, "It's a warm family movie with a hopeful message. It's a work that reminds us of the preciousness of everyday life, so I hope you watch it with a warm heart during the holiday season."
'Sugar' is set to be released on January 21 next year.
