Son Ye-jin Discusses Upholding Social Order and Potential Third Collaboration with Husband Hyun Bin

In a recent interview at a café in Sogyeok-dong, Seoul, Son Ye-jin discussed her role in the film 'Inevitable,' where she stars alongside Lee Byung-hun. The film tells the story of Mansoo, played by Lee, who struggles to find new employment after being unexpectedly laid off from a paper company he worked at for 25 years. Son Ye-jin plays the role of Miri, Mansoo's wife, who steps up to support the family after his job loss.
When asked if she has ever experienced the despair of unemployment, Son Ye-jin replied, "I have been working for over twenty years, so I haven't experienced unemployment firsthand. However, our line of work requires us to be cautious. If I were to engage in unethical or illegal activities, I could be out of a job the next day." She continued, "How many people truly believe that if they work hard, they can keep their job indefinitely? Our film reflects the modern reality where societal and workplace variables can affect one's employment status. Mansoo's layoff wasn't due to a lack of ability but rather a result of corporate restructuring."
Son Ye-jin further elaborated, "At any moment, a mistake could lead to unemployment, especially in our country where moral standards are stringent. This is why I am always careful and mindful of my actions. After working in this industry for over twenty years, it has become second nature to avoid mistakes. Even something as simple as littering could be captured and define me negatively."
Reflecting on her past collaborations with Hyun Bin, including the film 'The Negotiation' and the drama 'Crash Landing on You,' Son Ye-jin shared her thoughts on working with him again. "I am open to the idea, but I'm not sure about him. I haven't asked," she laughed. "'Crash Landing on You' was well-received, with its blend of romance and comedy. It might be challenging to do another romance, but perhaps a comedy or action project could be interesting. I'm not sure if such an opportunity will arise."
