Jo Jung-suk Shines as a Devoted Father in New Zombie Comedy 'Zombie Daughter'

On the 21st, a press conference and media screening for 'Zombie Daughter' was held at Megabox COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul. Director Pil Gam-seong, along with actors Jo Jung-suk, Lee Jung-eun, Jo Yeo-jeong, Yoon Kyung-ho, and Choi Yoo-ri, were in attendance.

In the film, Jo Jung-suk's character, Jeong-hwan, takes his infected daughter, Soo-ah (played by Choi Yoo-ri), to the seaside village of Eunbong-ri, where his mother Bamsun (played by Lee Jung-eun) lives.
The film draws comparisons to 'Train to Busan,' another zombie-themed movie from the same distributor. Director Pil Gam-seong noted, "Both films share the theme of protecting a loved one who has become a zombie. The emotional depth of a father's love is explored, especially when facing villains." He humorously added that the 'Train to Busan' reference was decided before the distributor was chosen.
The family in the film shares a love for K-pop, featuring songs like BoA's 'No.1' and 2NE1's 'I Am the Best.' Director Pil explained, "The lively rhythm and sad lyrics of 'No.1' fit well with the film's tone. We also wanted to incorporate the iconic finger choreography." He added that 2NE1's song was perfect for showcasing the 'swag' of the village grandmothers and matched the confident entrance of Soo-ah, Jeong-hwan, and Dong-bae at an amusement park.
Regarding the zombie movements, Director Pil stated, "Our focus wasn't on zombie spectacle. We worked with Choi Yoo-ri, the makeup team, and a choreographer to design the zombie's actions and expressions, drawing inspiration from pets." This approach aimed to portray a lovable zombie adapting to human society.

Jo expressed gratitude for the role, saying, "I'm thrilled to hear that the film suits me well. When I was offered the role, I was already a father, which deepened my connection to the story." He humorously recalled how his eagerness to participate was misinterpreted as a declaration of ownership of the role.
Jo also shared a personal story about caring for his daughter when she had a high fever due to COVID-19, emphasizing the natural parental instinct to care for one's child.

Jo Yeo-jeong portrays Yeon-hwa, a zombie hunter and Jeong-hwan's first love. She fondly recalled the comfortable atmosphere on set, likening it to visiting a sister's home.

Yoon, known for his role as a doctor in 'Trauma Center,' expressed satisfaction with his diverse roles, joking about his unexpected career path.

Jo Jung-suk complimented Yoon's muscular physique, adding humor to the discussion about the costume choices.

Director Pil concluded, "'Zombie Daughter' is a harmless family comedy with thrilling zombies, heartwarming laughter, and touching moments. We hope for your support and interest." Yoon Kyung-ho added a playful acrostic poem to encourage viewers to watch the film.
'Zombie Daughter' is set to release on the 30th.
