Ahn Hyo-seop Discusses His Passion for Acting and Overcoming Challenges
On the 16th, at a café in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, actor Ahn Hyo-seop, who stars in the film 'Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint,' shared insights into his role and career.
'Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint' is a fantasy action film based on a web novel of the same name. It depicts the events that unfold when the world of a novel, which has been serialized for over a decade, becomes reality. Ahn Hyo-seop plays Kim Dok-ja, the sole reader of the novel.
In the film, Kim Dok-ja resolves to change the novel's ending, where only the protagonist survives, to one where everyone survives. When asked if there were any choices in his life he wished to change, Ahn replied, "Not a single one." He explained, "Every choice I've made has shaped who I am today. Good choices don't always lead to good outcomes. From the perspective that nothing is gained without pain, every choice was meaningful."
Reflecting on overcoming challenges, he shared, "I dislike being in the spotlight. Ironically, being an actor means being in the public eye. Overcoming that was a significant challenge." He added, "I overcame it because I had to. Even now, I'm not sure if I've truly overcome it. No matter how much I love this art and enjoy acting, it means nothing if no one watches. Without an audience, I can't exist. That thought kept me going."
Ahn Hyo-seop, who moved from Canada to Korea with dreams of debuting, said, "I initially wanted to pursue both acting and singing. It was a time when 'acting idols' were popular. My naive plan was to act through my popularity as a singer," he laughed. "As I continued, I grew to respect these fields. I decided to focus on acting, leaving music as a hobby, which I still think was a great decision. I didn't realize it at the time, but acting became enjoyable, and I developed a passion for it."
Recently, Ahn voiced the character Jin-woo in the animation 'K-Pop Demon Hunters' (referred to as 'K-Demon Hunters'), playing a member of the idol group Lion Boys. He modestly said, "I didn't achieve a dream; I just enjoyed it."
Ahn commented, "I took on 'K-Demon Hunters' because it seemed fun. I wasn't aware it was a global project," expressing gratitude for the love it received. With fans anticipating a live-action adaptation, Ahn stated, "I have no desire to play Jin-woo in a live-action version. I enjoyed 'K-Demon Hunters' as it is and am a fan of the project. That's enough for me."
'Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint' is set to release on the 23rd.
