Anticipated Fantasy Film 'Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint' Set to Captivate Audiences

The highly anticipated film 'Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint' (ORV) is gearing up for its release, carrying the weight of its original web novel's impressive 300 million views. The cast and director assure that the film stands strong on its own merits.

On October 15th, a press screening and conference for 'Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint' took place at Megabox COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul. The event was attended by Director Kim Byung-woo and stars Ahn Hyo-seop, Lee Min-ho, Chae Soo-bin, Shin Seung-ho, and Nana.

'ORV' is a fantasy action film that explores the chaos that ensues when the world of a long-serialized novel becomes reality on its final day. Key locations include Geumho Station and Chungmuro Station on Subway Line 3. The original web novel has amassed over 300 million views worldwide.

Director Kim aimed to make the film accessible to those unfamiliar with the original work. He explained, "From the scriptwriting stage, I focused on ensuring that viewers who haven't read the original can still enjoy the film. I conducted various surveys and asked questions during the editing process to gauge reactions." He added, "Creating a work based on a famous original comes with both advantages and challenges. The goal was to design a story that stands on its own, regardless of familiarity with the original."

Kim also sought to balance 'fantasy action fun' with 'the meaning of living together.' He explained, "In action fantasy, there are certain expectations. I pondered what more could be done. While the original has many valuable themes, I was particularly drawn to the idea of 'togetherness.' The protagonist, Kim Dok-ja, uses his knowledge not just for himself but to survive together with others. This aspect resonated with me, and I focused on depicting the characters' inner worlds."

Ahn Hyo-seop plays Kim Dok-ja, the sole reader of the novel for over ten years. He shared, "Filming was incredibly fun. When else would I get to be inside a dragon's belly, fight a fire dragon, and fly to save my comrades?" He expressed curiosity about how the imagined scenes would translate on screen.

Regarding the famous original, Ahn admitted, "I didn't realize how big the IP was when I first read the script. The script alone was enjoyable, and I was excited to see how it would be adapted in Korea." He added, "With high expectations comes pressure, but negative pressure isn't helpful. I focused on doing my best every day on set. I hope both fans of the original and new viewers enjoy the film."

Ahn discussed his approach to the character, saying, "I wanted to create my own version of Kim Dok-ja. While the original character resolves issues decisively, I aimed to portray a more realistic and relatable character in the film."

Comparing Kim Dok-ja to previous roles, Ahn noted, "Though he's the protagonist, he doesn't feel like one. Unlike my previous characters with distinct strengths or charms, Kim Dok-ja is rather ordinary, which is his greatest asset."

Lee Min-ho portrays Yoo Joong-hyuk, the protagonist of the novel serialized for over a decade. He shared, "It's been ten years since my last film, and I'm nervous."

Given the fantasy genre, the film heavily utilizes CGI. Lee remarked, "Imagination and creativity were crucial. I'm not usually one for wild imagination, but this project encouraged it, enriching my emotional experience."

In the film, Yoo Joong-hyuk survives alone through his regression ability, leading a solitary life. Lee approached the role by considering, "What if I were in Yoo Joong-hyuk's situation?"

Chae Soo-bin plays Yoo Sang-ah, a colleague who faces the novel-turned-reality alongside Kim Dok-ja. She admitted, "Filming with CGI had its challenges, as the opponents weren't physically present."

Yoo Sang-ah's skill involves manipulating threads. Chae shared, "I used threads instead of weapons like swords. I discussed a lot with the director and the stunt team."

Shin Seung-ho plays Lee Hyun-sung, a soldier who provides crucial support with his strength and defense. He expressed gratitude for the director's detailed guidance, which made filming enjoyable.

Nana portrays Jung Hee-won, who is saved by Kim Dok-ja and fights for justice. She shared her initial concerns about acting with a blue screen, but found that once immersed in the set, her worries dissipated, allowing her to freely explore her character.

'Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint' is set to release on October 23rd.
