Exploring the Intriguing Dynamics of 'Soju War': A Tale of Ambition and Loyalty

Set against the backdrop of the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis, the film follows the struggles of Kookbo Group, a company known for its 'national soju,' as it faces financial turmoil. Seizing the opportunity, global investment firm Solqueen approaches Kookbo Group under the guise of offering advice. Kookbo's CFO, Pyo Jong-rok (played by Yoo Hae-jin), driven by a desire to save the company he has dedicated his life to, turns to Solqueen's Choi In-beom (played by Lee Je-hoon) for help. As Pyo strives to protect Kookbo Group and Choi harbors ambitions to take it over, the two men find themselves drawn together over a shared appreciation for soju.

The narrative centers around two characters: Pyo Jong-rok, for whom the company is life itself, and Choi In-beom, who separates work from life. Pyo is portrayed as loyal to a fault, while Choi is ambitious and somewhat cold. Through these characters, the film explores shifting values and lifestyles during a time of societal upheaval. Despite their conflicting values, both characters strive to live their lives to the fullest, sharing moments of human connection over soju, which adds a poignant touch to the story.

The film also incorporates entertaining elements, showcasing intense corporate battles and a diverse array of human characters, making it an engaging watch.
