Kim Yoon-seok Expresses Deep Affection for Upcoming Film 'About Family'
Kim Yoon-seok has expressed his heartfelt affection for the upcoming film 'About Family'.
On the 12th, a production briefing for the movie 'About Family' was held at Lotte Cinema Konkuk University Entrance in Jayang-dong, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul.
'About Family' is a family comedy about the unexpected cohabitation that ensues when adorable grandchildren, whom he has never seen before, visit the owner of a famous dumpling restaurant, Pyung Man-ok (played by Kim Yoon-seok), whose family line was thought to have ended because his son (played by Lee Seung-gi) became a monk. The event was attended by director Yang Woo-seok and actors Kim Yoon-seok, Lee Seung-gi, Kim Sung-ryung, Kang Han-na, and Park Soo-young.
Kim Yoon-seok takes on the role of Ham Moo-ok, the owner of Pyung Man-ok, who survived as a war orphan during the Korean War and became self-made with just one dumpling. Lee Seung-gi plays Ham Moon-seok, who cuts ties with his father to become a monk.
Kim Yoon-seok shared, “A dumpling master came to the set. The hardest part was using both the right and left hands simultaneously. The master had decades of experience. Dumplings may not seem special, but the skill in making them is extraordinary. Maintaining the taste of dumplings he ate as a child for 38 years is remarkable. Chefs are like artists. They are incredible craftsmen,” he marveled. Despite making many dumpling soups for the shoot, he couldn’t eat them. He lamented, “I made hundreds of bowls but couldn’t eat them because I was acting. I really wanted to eat them, but I couldn’t. The steam was rising, but I couldn’t eat.” He also added, “I tried kneading the dough briefly for the shoot, and the craftsmen are truly amazing,” expressing his admiration.
Reflecting on when he first received the script for 'About Family', Kim Yoon-seok said, “It was rare.” He explained, “With the COVID-19 pandemic and the rise of OTT platforms, most works emphasized speed, individuality, impact, and stimulation. Many stories depicted the end of the world, murders, and more incidents than dramas. Amidst this, 'About Family' was a rare script. It felt like reading a novel after a long time.”
'About Family' is set to be released on December 11th.
