Director Yeon Sang-ho Clarifies Rumors About Exclusive Contract with Netflix
Director Yeon Sang-ho has addressed rumors regarding an exclusive contract with Netflix.

On the evening of the 4th, the 'Next on Netflix: 2025 Korean Films' event was held at Park Hyatt Busan. Attendees included Director Yeon Sang-ho of 'Revelation', Director Kim Byung-woo of 'The Great Flood', Director Kim Tae-jun of '84 Square Meters', Director Nam Koong-sun of 'History of Confession', Director Lee Tae-sung of 'Mantis', Director Han Ji-won of 'What This Star Needs', Director Byun Sung-hyun of 'Good News', and Netflix Content Director Kim Tae-won. The event showcased Netflix's film lineup for 2025.

Director Yeon Sang-ho, who is set to release 'Hellbound 2' on the 25th, will present 'Revelation' in 2025. He stated, "I debuted with animation and began making live-action films with 'Train to Busan'. Since then, I've worked on projects involving a lot of creatures and CGI. I wanted to create a film with minimal CGI, and that's 'Revelation'. It's a different approach from my previous works. We minimized CGI and makeup for the actors. I wanted to try a cinematic approach. I'm curious about how Netflix audiences will perceive a film made in a cinematic style."

Notably, Director Yeon has collaborated with Netflix on six projects, including the 'Hellbound' series, the film 'JUNG_E', the series 'The Silent Sea', 'Parasyte: The Grey', 'Hellbound 2', and 'Revelation'. He clarified, "Some people think I have an exclusive contract with Netflix, but that's not true at all. I plan each project as if it might be the last. It just so happened that I've worked consecutively with Netflix, but I definitely have plans to make theatrical films."

The 29th Busan International Film Festival runs from the 2nd to the 11th at the Busan Cinema Center. This year, 224 films have been officially invited, an increase of 15 from last year's 209. The opening film is Netflix's 'War', and the closing film is 'Journey of the Soul'.
