Kwak Si-yang has obtained a yacht driving license for filming
Kwak Si-yang has obtained a yacht driving license for his role in the upcoming film 'Desperate Chase'.
On the 16th, Kwak Si-yang shared his thoughts on starring in 'Desperate Chase' during an interview at a café in Samcheong-dong, Seoul.
'Desperate Chase' is a film that revolves around a high-stakes chase involving a con artist, an anger management-challenged detective, and a crime boss, all converging in Jeju for different reasons. Kwak Si-yang plays Jo Soo-gwang, a detective with anger management issues. Despite his 100% arrest rate, Jo's inability to control his anger leads to problematic incidents, resulting in his transfer to the Jeju Police Department.
Kwak Si-yang expressed his enthusiasm for the role, stating, "It was fun. There were many parts where I could let loose, and it was a new genre for me to explore. I have always had a passion for comedy."
Regarding his character with anger management issues, Kwak said, "I thought a lot about it. I was worried it might come off as excessive or that I might be criticized for my acting. I discussed it a lot with the director. I wanted to tone it down a bit, but the director wanted it to be more pronounced, so we adjusted it on set." He added, "I also made changes to my appearance to reflect the character's explosive nature, even perming my hair."
When asked about his real personality, Kwak laughed and said, "People around me call me 'Dongba,' which means 'village fool.' Senior actor Park Sung-woong says I have a bit of a quirky side, but I'm not sure why." He continued, "I might be a bit sensitive when working, but generally, I go with the flow. I usually think, 'There must be a reason for everything.'"
Kwak revealed that he obtained a license to drive a boat for a scene in the film. "I got a license called the 'Motorized Water Leisure Equipment Operator's License.' They said I needed it to drive a boat, so I took the test," he proudly showed his license. Kwak, who passed the test on his first try, shared, "It took a lot of time. I dedicated about a week to it, going from 8 AM to the afternoon."
Kwak also expressed his desire to drive a boat in the future. "If I go to the sea, I would like to try driving a boat. There are specific types of boats I can drive, like small fishing boats. I want to try it out at sea," he said. He humorously added, "When I got the license, I checked the prices of boats, but they were too expensive. They range from 40 to 50 million won to several hundred million won. I thought, 'I can't afford this.'"
'Desperate Chase' is set to be released on the 21st.
