What's behind the production of Ridley Scott's movie 'Napoleon'?

The behind-the-scenes production of the movie 'Napoleon' (director Ridley Scott) was revealed.

'Napoleon' is a film depicting the spectacular life of Napoleon, the hero who became emperor himself, and Joséphine, the only woman the emperor could not conquer.

1) The ice lake where the vast battle took place was created by digging up agricultural land.

Director Ridley Scott, who directed large-scale masterpieces such as 'The Martian' and 'Gladiator', even produced the storyboard himself. It is said that the Battle of Austerlitz scene, which unfolds against the background of a vast snow-covered ice lake, was created by directly digging up agricultural land to create a large ice lake. Neil Cobbold, special effects director for 'Napoleon', said, "This is the largest snow-related special effect we have ever worked on."

2) Picture-like, elaborate costumes made all over France

The characters' costumes were completed after a lot of effort traveling around France. Janthi Yates, who was in charge of costumes for 'Napoleon', said that for research, she visited the Ampere Museum in the Salon de Provence, the Military Museum in Paris, and even Malmaison, where Joséphine spent the rest of her life.


3) Music that captures the atmosphere of the times

The music, which adds pressure to the overwhelming scale and adds to the flavor of the era, is also a major point of 'Napoleon'. Director Ridley Scott doubled the feel of the times by using a Corsican anthem to express Napoleon, who was from Corsica, and a piano borrowed from a London museum.
