Hirokazu Kore-eda's movie 'The Monster', what are some good points to know before watching?

The movie ‘The Monster’ (directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda), winner of the Screenplay Award at the 76th Cannes Film Festival, has revealed viewing points.

'Monster' is a story about a mother who notices something strange about her son's behavior that has changed beyond recognition and visits the school, where everyone around him who is involved in a mysterious incident goes through a whirlwind of emotions.

1) A monstrous masterpiece by world-famous director Hirokazu Koreeda.

Director Hirokazu Koreeda has delicately handled everyday moments, focusing on the emotions and relationships hidden within humans through films such as ‘Nobody Knows’, ‘That’s How You Become a Father’, ‘A Certain Family’, and ‘Broker’. The new work ‘Monster’ also contains a unique warm yet sharp insight. It also won the Best Screenplay Award at the 76th Cannes Film Festival, the Audience Award at the 49th Vancouver International Film Festival, and the FIPRESCI Award at the 34th Stockholm Film Festival.


2) Collaboration with screenwriter Yuji Sakamoto and the late music director Ryuichi Sakamoto

Yuji Sakamoto, one of Japan's best screenwriters, participated in the screenplay, producing numerous hits such as the dramas 'Mother', 'The Best Divorce', 'Quartet', and the movies 'Crying Love in the Center of the World' and 'Love Like a Bouquet'. The music will be performed by the late Ryuichi Sakamoto, who won the best score at the 60th Academy Awards for his work in the movie 'The Last Emperor', and will impress the audience.


3) Immersive acting

Child actors Soya Kurokawa and Hinata Hiiragi were selected through auditions, and played the roles of elementary school students Minato and Yori, respectively, in the play. Sakura Ando, who played Nobuyo Shibata in the Palme d'Or winner at the 71st Cannes Film Festival, 'A Family', will play the role of mother Saori. As a mother, she captured the image of a mother trying to protect her son against a school that does not listen to her.

Eita Nagayama, who left a strong impression on domestic drama fans as Ryutaro Mine in the drama 'Nodame Cantabile', played the role of Hori, an elementary school teacher suspected of verbal abuse and violence against students. The conflict with his parent, Saori, is gradually shown.

The movie ‘The Monster’ will be released in Korea on November 29th.
