'The Spider's House' raised the dignity of Cannes "12-minute standing ovation"
On this day, 2300 seats at the Lumière Theater were filled with 7 actors including director Kim Ji-woon, Song Kang-ho, Lim Su-jeong, Oh Jeong-se, Jeon Yeo-bin, Jeong Su-jeong, Park Jeong-soo, and Jang Young-nam. Director Kim Jee-woon and actors Kang-ho Song, Su-jeong Lim, Jeong-se Oh, Yeo-bin Jeon, Jeong Su-jeong, Jeong-soo Park, and Young-nam Jang attended the red carpet event prior to the world premiere and received a flash baptism from the reporters.
As soon as the screening of the movie started, the setting of the movie against the background of an era unimaginable in the West, the censorship of scripts in the 1970s, and the director's obsession at the film site under adverse conditions, each perfecting his role, filled the running time thoroughly. Ensemble director Kim Jee-woon's unique comedy and style colored the Lumiere Grand Theater with empathy and laughter. During the screening of the movie, there were endless laughter and applause during the screening.
The actors who watched the movie for the first time also expressed overwhelming emotions at the cheers of the audience who filled the theater. When special applause poured out to the director, such as 333 applause while chanting Kim Ji-woon's name, director Kim Ji-woon said, "Thank you so much for watching and enjoying the movie with enthusiasm, and every time I come to Cannes, I always bring more of my love for movies. I think I'll check it again today, and I'm going to receive it. I want to share all the emotions and feelings I have with all the actors and staff of 'Spider's House', including Song Kang-ho and Lim Soo-jung. Thank you for your hard work and thank you very much. "he said.
The overseas media also praised it. Patrick Burgesschi of The Hollywood Reporter said, "'The Spider's Nest' is a legitimate and moving examination of the nature of filmmaking. A film that only Kim Jee-woon can make." I was surprised that the intensity was stronger. It was a truly unique and one-of-a-kind work.”
'The Spider's House' is scheduled to be released in Korea this year after being first released at the Cannes Film Festival.
