Korean Rapper Jerry.K Passes Away at 42 After Battling Brain Tumor
According to his family, Jerry.K succumbed to glioblastoma, a malignant brain tumor, after a two-year battle. He was 42 years old.
Born in 1984, Jerry.K was a graduate of Seoul National University's Department of Communication. He debuted in 2001 as part of the rap duo Loquence with his high school friend, rapper Makesense. He was also an original member of the hip-hop crew Soul Company and continued his music career as a solo artist.
In 2011, he founded the independent label Days Alive and remained active in the music scene. He was known for his critical perspective on reality, exploring various facets of Korean society through his music.
In 2015, his third studio album 'Reality, Enemy' was nominated for Best Rap & Hip-Hop Album at the 12th Korean Music Awards. Two years later, his fourth studio album's title track 'Call Center' was also nominated for Best Rap & Hip-Hop Song at the same awards.
His final album was the fifth studio album 'Home,' released in 2020, which captured themes of recovery and peace in everyday life. In May 2024, he revealed on social media, "I was suddenly diagnosed with a brain tumor, underwent surgery, and am recovering. I hope to improve little by little."
Jerry.K's memorial is being held at the Sinchon Severance Hospital Funeral Hall in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul. The funeral is scheduled for the 29th.
