Choi Byung-gil Responds to Ex-Wife Seo Yu-ri's Criticism Amid Financial Struggles
Choi Byung-gil, a well-known producer, has publicly addressed the recent criticism from his ex-wife, voice actress Seo Yu-ri, who accused him of 'media manipulation.'

On October 20, Choi took to Instagram to share a lengthy post titled 'A Letter to Seo Yu-ri,' where he explained his current financial difficulties. Choi stated, 'I want to pay the settlement money, but I am currently without income, making it difficult to do so. My only wish is to secure work soon so I can fulfill this obligation.'

Choi also addressed the issue of blocking Seo's contact, explaining, 'I have repeatedly requested that she contact me through my lawyer, but this has not been respected. I am unable to pay my phone bill, so my phone service has been disconnected, but I have no intention of disappearing.'

He emphasized the importance of reputation in their industry, stating, 'In this business, image and reputation are everything. Negative exchanges between us benefit no one.' Choi pleaded with Seo, saying, 'Please, even if you can't support me, at least leave me be so I can try to get back on my feet and pay the settlement.'

Previously, Choi had released documents from their divorce negotiations, which included conditions for Seo to be cast in leading roles and participate in international festivals. Choi claimed these were unrealistic demands and that he had agreed to additional payments to finalize the settlement.

Seo Yu-ri, however, refuted these claims, stating, 'Those were merely negotiation terms, not the final agreement. It's hard to accept his claim of adding 60 million won when he hasn't even repaid the initial amount.'

Choi and Seo were married in 2019 and divorced in March 2024.

A Letter to Seo Yu-ri's Team

I have never once gone back on my promise to pay the settlement after signing the agreement. It's just that I haven't been able to due to my lack of income.

As you know, this industry is heavily influenced by image and reputation. Negative exchanges between us do no good.

I am eager to secure work soon so I can pay the settlement as quickly as possible.

The reason I blocked contact was that I repeatedly asked for communication through my lawyer, which was not followed. I can't afford my phone bill, so my phone is disconnected, but my number remains the same, and I have no intention of disappearing.

Please, refrain from negative comments about me and allow me the chance to get back on my feet and pay the settlement. Even if you can't support me, at least leave me be.

I sincerely ask for this favor.
