Actor Oh Man-seok Shares Insights on Portraying Historical Figure in Musical 'The Hague'
On the afternoon of the 8th, a press call for the musical 'The Hague' was held at NOL Uniplex 1 in Daehangno. The event was attended by producer Kim Tae-woo, director Park Ji-hye, and actors Song Il-gook, Oh Man-seok, Geum Jun-hyun, Kang Seung-sik, and Lee Se-on.
'The Hague,' which opened on the 1st, is based on the 'Hague Secret Emissary Affair' of 1907, just before the dark days of Korea's annexation by Japan. The musical reimagines the mission with the addition of fictional emissaries who assisted the leader, Lee Sang-seol, shedding new light on their journey on the 120th anniversary of the event.
Oh Man-seok takes on the role of Lee Sang-seol, the leader of the Hague emissaries. He acknowledged the pressure of portraying a real person, stating, "There are parts that must not be distorted, so I was cautious."
He further explained, "Strictly speaking, my age does not match the historical figure's age. We've created fictional characters and added elements of fiction."
Despite this, he added, "I have put a lot of thought into ensuring that the historical facts are accurately conveyed to the audience during rehearsals."
The musical 'The Hague' will run until June 21.
