Rapper Sik-K Pleads for Leniency in Drug Use Appeal Case
During the first appeal hearing held on the 2nd at the Seoul Western District Court's Criminal Appeal Division 2-1 (Presiding Judge Jeong Seong-gyun), the prosecution argued that the original sentence was too lenient and requested the same sentence as the first trial: three years and six months in prison. Previously, the first trial court sentenced Sik-K to 10 months in prison, suspended for two years, along with probation and mandatory drug treatment lectures.
The defense argued, "The defendant is merely a user and not involved in distribution," adding, "He has been cooperating with the investigation and trial, is overcoming drug dependency through treatment, and has a low risk of reoffending."
The defense also emphasized, "His status as a public figure inherently imposes social constraints that make reoffending difficult," and noted that he has already faced social disadvantages such as halting broadcasts and canceled advertisements, arguing that his professional status should not negatively impact sentencing.
In January last year, Sik-K approached a police officer in Yongsan District, Seoul, asking, "Is this a police station?" and voluntarily confessed to drug use. During the investigation, additional charges of using ketamine and ecstasy in October 2023 and smoking and possessing marijuana in January 2024 were revealed.
During the trial, Sik-K expressed, "I have never felt more ashamed," and pleaded for a chance to repay his family and those around him.
The appellate court's verdict is scheduled to be announced at 10 a.m. on the 30th.
