Mister Trot Stars Nasangdo and Choi Jaemyung Make Musical Debut in 'Girlfriend'
On the afternoon of the 30th, a press call for 'Girlfriend' was held at Baekam Art Hall in Gangnam. The event was attended by collaborative director Noh Woojin, music director J ACO, and actors Kim Jaehan, Yeonho, Ok Jinwook, Taeho, Hong Eunki, Nasangdo, Niel, Lee Howon, Kim Hyunjoong, and Lee Dokyung.
Set in the 1990s, 'Girlfriend' tells the story of two young men, Will and Mike, who connect through music as they approach graduation. Despite their seemingly indifferent exteriors, both characters grapple with their own insecurities and deficiencies. As they navigate unfamiliar emotions, they gradually close the gap in their relationship.
Nasangdo and Choi Jaemyung, both from the Mister Trot series, are venturing into the musical genre with this production. They both play the role of Mike, a character who, despite his handsome appearance and the expectations placed upon him, harbors inner turmoil.
Reflecting on his debut alongside Choi Jaemyung, Nasangdo shared, "There's a 15-year age difference between us, and our debuts are about 15 years apart as well. I wondered if we could become close, but he's someone I can learn a lot from."
Nasangdo continued, "When I heard from the staff that Jaemyung would be joining the stage, I thought, 'I won't be lonely,' and eagerly accepted the role." He added, "Once we started working together, it wasn't just about the two of us. Everyone is putting in a lot of effort to perfectly embody their roles."
Choi Jaemyung also expressed his thoughts, saying, "Having senior Nasangdo around is reassuring." He reflected on his journey, "I don't know what happened to me in the past 3-5 years. I went from studying pansori to becoming a trot singer and now making my musical debut."
Choi Jaemyung added, "Since both trot and musicals are new to me, I'm more excited than scared. With so many experienced seniors around, it feels like being in the military again. I'm working hard as the youngest member."
'Girlfriend' will be performed at Baekam Art Hall from the 31st to June 7th.
