Trot Singer Na Sang-do Makes Musical Debut in 'Girlfriend'

Trot singer Na Sang-do has shared his thoughts on debuting as a musical actor.

On the afternoon of the 30th, a press call for 'Girlfriend' was held at Baekam Art Hall in Gangnam. The event was attended by collaborative director No Woo-jin, music director J ACO, and actors Kim Jae-han, Yeon-ho, Ok Jin-wook, Tae-ho, Hong Eun-ki, Na Sang-do, Niel, Lee Ho-won, Kim Hyun-joong, and Lee Do-kyung.

Set in the 1990s, 'Girlfriend' tells the story of two young men, Will and Mike, who connect through music as they approach graduation. Despite their indifferent appearances, both characters grapple with their own insecurities and deficiencies. As they navigate unfamiliar emotions, they gradually close the gap in their relationship.

Na Sang-do makes his debut in the musical genre with this production, playing the role of Mike. Mike is a character who, despite his handsome appearance and the expectations of others, harbors internal fractures.

Director No expressed initial concerns about casting Na Sang-do, stating, "When I received the list from the production company, I was worried." However, he added, "I was pleasantly surprised during rehearsals. Each actor has a unique charm," and urged audiences to look forward to the performance.

Na Sang-do candidly shared his debut feelings, admitting, "I wanted to run away." He explained, "When I received the offer, I thought, 'This isn't my usual field,' and I had a lot of concerns." He continued, "Once I decided to do it and started rehearsing, I wanted to escape. It was very challenging."

Despite the difficulties, Na Sang-do expressed gratitude, saying, "Today was tough, and tomorrow will be too," but added, "My younger and older colleagues have been very supportive, giving me a lot of courage. I want to thank all the actors and creators. Now, I'm enjoying it."

Meanwhile, 'Girlfriend' will be performed at Baekam Art Hall from May 31 to June 7.
