BTS Targets Grammy Glory with Star-Studded Producer Lineup for 'ARIRANG'

BTS's fifth studio album 'ARIRANG' features a powerhouse team of 25 main producers, 16 of whom have either won or been nominated for Grammy Awards. This strategic move by HYBE suggests a clear aim for Grammy success, as BTS continues to break records in the K-pop industry.

The album credits reveal a total of 43 contributors, including six BTS members, with 25 main producers. Among them, eight have won Grammys, and another eight have been nominees. Notable names include Ryan Tedder, known for his work with Adele and Taylor Swift, and Tyler Johnson, who helped Harry Styles secure a Grammy.

Mix engineers involved in the album all have Grammy connections, ensuring top-notch sound quality. The title track 'SWIM' was crafted by Ryan Tedder's close associates, Tyler Spry and Leclerc, known for their exceptional musicianship. Grammy voters tend to favor music played by humans over machine-generated sounds. The track's mix was handled by Serban Ghenea, a 24-time Grammy-winning engineer.

Industry insiders suggest that HYBE's choice of collaborators aims to boost BTS's Grammy chances within the next two to three years. An industry source noted, "The more familiar the artists and producers are to Grammy voters, the higher the chances of winning."

Despite the star-studded lineup, BTS members seem somewhat sidelined in the 'ARIRANG' project. None of the 14 tracks feature a BTS member as the main producer. While HYBE stated that six members, excluding Jin, actively participated, their contributions appear limited to songwriting, with their names listed towards the end of the credits.

Suga, previously active as a producer, only contributed to Korean rap lyrics, often listed last in the credits, suggesting a minimal role.

HYBE's involvement of top global producers undeniably enhances the album's quality. However, creativity, crucial for Grammy wins, seems overshadowed. BTS members should have played a more active role in the album's creation.

Past Grammy winners like Billie Eilish and Bad Bunny, both singer-songwriters, highlight the importance of unique artistic narratives. Bad Bunny's win with a Spanish-language album underscores the value of authentic storytelling over language.

Having been Grammy nominees for three consecutive years from 2021 to 2023, BTS is no stranger to the judges. While their music subtly influences the album, their presence is not prominently felt, leaving a bittersweet impression.
