Netflix's 'K-Pop Demon Hunters' Faces Racism Allegations at Oscars After Speech Interruptions
Netflix's animated film 'K-Pop Demon Hunters' (referred to as 'KDH') made headlines by winning two awards at the 98th Academy Awards held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles. However, the event was marred by controversy as the acceptance speeches of the winners were abruptly cut off, sparking allegations of racial discrimination.

'KDH' took home the awards for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song on the night of the ceremony. Singer and co-writer Lee Jae, who performed the film's OST 'Golden,' took to the stage to express, "This song is about recovery, not success. As a child, people mocked me for liking K-pop, but now everyone sings our songs. I am proud."

As Lee Jae finished his speech and attempted to pass the microphone to co-composer Lee Yuhan, the exit music began to play loudly. Despite Lee Yuhan's attempt to continue with his prepared remarks, the music did not cease.

Lee Jae gestured for more time, exclaiming, "Wait!" while co-lyricist Mark Sonnenblick jumped in protest. Unfortunately, lyricists Lee Yuhan and Mark Sonnenblick, along with The Black Label composers Kwak Joong-kyu, Nam Hee-dong, and Seo Jung-hoon, were not given the opportunity to share their thoughts.

After the ceremony, Lee Jae expressed his disappointment, stating, "I wanted to thank everyone on stage, but I couldn't." Lee Yuhan also shared his gratitude post-event, saying, "I wanted to thank my family, the composing team 24, IDO members, and Teddy. It's an incredible honor."

Earlier that evening, when 'KDH' won the Best Animated Feature award, directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans delivered their speeches. However, when producer Michelle Wing took the microphone, the music began to play again. In response, CNN commented, "The Oscars should not dismiss K-pop."
