K-Pop Star Soyou Opens Up About Her Challenging Childhood and Evolving Views on Marriage
On October 10, the YouTube channel 'Alttalttalhan Chamgyeon' released a video titled 'The Brothers Started Advising... Only to Be Counterattacked by Soyou.'
During the episode, Soyou shared her changing perspective on marriage. She confessed, "My life goal was never to become a top star or the Beyoncé of Korea. I just dreamed of being a good wife and wise mother." However, the pandemic made her reconsider, thinking, "In a world like this, I don't want to have children."
She continued, "It's not that I don't want to get married, but if I'm not going to have children, I question the necessity of marriage. Without the thought of children, the idea of marriage also faded." Yet, she openly expressed her desire to date.
Soyou opened up about her difficult family circumstances growing up. "My family struggled a lot. We were on basic welfare, so hospital visits cost only 1,500 won, and pharmacy visits were 500 won," she recalled. She also shared a memory from middle school when their house was burglarized, possibly due to her frequent habit of climbing through windows after losing her keys.
"'Some' is still the highlight of my career," she stated. "The song topped the charts for 12 weeks. It was so successful that people would ask, 'Are you performing again?' and I felt pressure from other agencies. I'm sensitive to others' opinions, and it led to some anxiety," she revealed.
Reflecting on her current life, Soyou said, "My life is quite uneventful now. I wake up, go to the gym, and spend over three hours there. But I've been told that such a routine is precious." She added, "I've heard that my luck will be great for the next three years, so I'm planning to try everything I want."
Soyou, who made headlines for losing 20kg, clarified, "People think I lost weight easily, but I worked intensely since January." Her current weight is reported to be 49kg.
