Director Jang Hang-jun's '10 Million Movie Promise' Gains Attention as 'The King and the Clown' Nears Box Office Milestone
According to the Korean Film Council's integrated computer network, 'The King and the Clown' surpassed 6.7 million cumulative viewers as of the 26th.
Bae Sung-jae asked, "Will you come back if it reaches 10 million?" Jang humorously replied, "There's no way it will, but if it does, I'll change my phone number, change my name, and get plastic surgery so no one recognizes me." He also joked, "I'm considering naturalizing elsewhere. I hope no one looks for me." He added, "I'm thinking about buying a yacht and having a party on it. You can't have a yacht party without lobster, right? Of course, a chef will be on board."
'The King and the Clown' reached 1 million viewers on its fifth day, 2 million on its 12th day, 3 million on its 14th day, 4 million on its 15th day, and 5 million on its 18th day, showing a rapid upward trend. The film attracted many viewers during the Lunar New Year holiday. In 2024, two films, 'Excavation' and 'Crime City 4,' reached the 10 million mark, but there were no such films last year. The only Korean film to surpass 5 million was 'Zombie Daughter.' All eyes are on whether 'The King and the Clown' will become the first 10 million film of the year.
