Actress Hwang Shin-hye Reveals She Gave Up Dating for Her Daughter
On the October 25th episode of KBS 2TV's variety show 'Hwang Shin-hye's Living Together,' Hwang Shin-hye, along with actresses Jang Yoon-jung and Jung Ga-eun, shared their experiences and concerns as single mothers.
During the episode, Jung Ga-eun confessed, "I've been so busy with my schedule lately that I haven't been able to spend much time with my child. I sometimes wonder if working this much is the right thing to do." In response, Hwang Shin-hye advised, "I hope you don't feel too anxious. Showing your child that you're working hard can have a positive impact on them, even if it's not immediately obvious."
Jang Yoon-jung added, "I believe it's important for a mother to live confidently and proudly. From a daughter's perspective, seeing her mother gain self-esteem through work is much better than seeing her sad. I think working hard when opportunities arise is actually beneficial for the child's education."
In particular, when Jung Ga-eun asked if there was anything Hwang Shin-hye had to give up as a mother, Hwang humorously replied, "I gave up on men." She shared that she once introduced a potential partner to her daughter, but if her daughter felt even slightly uncomfortable, her feelings would disappear. Hwang added, "If I had to pinpoint something I gave up, it would be men. Being with my daughter was more important. Even when I was out, I wanted to go home quickly. It just naturally happened that way."
Hwang Shin-hye debuted in 1983 as part of MBC's 16th open recruitment for talents. Four years into her career, she announced her retirement from the entertainment industry after marrying the heir of a fashion company, Esquire. However, the marriage ended in divorce after just nine months. In 1998, she married a younger heir of a conglomerate and had a daughter, Lee Jin-yi, but faced another divorce in 2005.
