Trot Singer Yoon Tae-hwa Opens Up About Divorce Amid Mother's Illness

Trot singer Yoon Tae-hwa recently revealed her divorce due to her mother's illness, and a heartfelt post from a year ago has resurfaced, touching many hearts.

On February 20, 2025, Yoon Tae-hwa shared on her Instagram, "They said it was a long-term illness. In the first year, even though I had no money left for myself, I was grateful that I could cover my mom's medical expenses."

She continued, "In the second year, I realized it's a disease that requires endurance," expressing her struggles by saying, "It's tough in many ways."

Yoon Tae-hwa shared her exhaustion, saying, "My mom would go through phases of not being able to walk and then walking again. During the season when she was depressed and had no will to live, I felt drained despite my efforts. It was sad. Seeing my mom without any emotions, not liking anything I did for her, was disheartening."

Despite Yoon Tae-hwa's care, her mother's condition did not improve. She lamented, "My mom would speak words she didn't even know the meaning of, refused to bathe, and would mistakenly ingest suppositories if I wasn't watching. During the medical strike, we even ended up in the emergency room. It was a tough night, and there were many expenses."

Yoon Tae-hwa admitted, "I even resented my sick mom," but added, "I lived telling everyone, 'My mom is getting better.'" She expressed her hope, saying, "I wish the time would come when I can genuinely say, 'Mom? She's much better now^^.'"

Previously, on the February 19th broadcast of TV CHOSUN's 'Miss Trot 4,' Yoon Tae-hwa chose Choi Jin-hee's 'Confession' for the second round of the Legend Mission. 'Confession' is a song about deep regret after a breakup.

When Choi Jin-hee asked Yoon Tae-hwa why she chose the song, Yoon Tae-hwa revealed, "After 'Miss Trot 2,' I got married, but after living together for a year, I returned," disclosing her divorce. She explained, "When 'Miss Trot 2' started, my mother collapsed, and it was very difficult. I got married to my then-boyfriend, but I remained the breadwinner. I couldn't fulfill my role as a wife because I had to take care of my mother, so we decided to live our own lives after discussing it."

Born in 1990, Yoon Tae-hwa debuted in the music industry in 2009 at the age of 19. She gained recognition through appearances on 'Miss Trot 2' and 'Current King.' In March 2022, she married a non-celebrity who is eight years her senior.
