Hollywood Legend Robert Duvall Passes Away at 95
His wife, Luciana Duvall, announced on Facebook on the 16th (local time), "Yesterday, I said goodbye to my beloved husband and dear friend, one of the great actors of our time," adding, "Robert passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones."
Luciana Duvall continued, "With every role he took on, Robert poured everything into his characters. To the world, he was an Academy Award-winning actor, director, and storyteller, but to me, he was everything."
The family did not disclose the specific cause of death.
Duvall was celebrated for his wide-ranging acting abilities, establishing himself as a prominent figure in Hollywood.
The Hollywood Reporter praised the late actor, who portrayed diverse characters in films such as 'The Godfather,' 'Apocalypse Now,' 'To Kill a Mockingbird,' and 'Tender Mercies,' as an "exceptional versatile actor."
Born in San Diego in 1931, Duvall pursued theater studies after high school.
He moved to New York to hone his acting skills and began his career as a stage actor with the Gateway Playhouse.
Duvall made his film debut in 'To Kill a Mockingbird,' based on the novel, and gained international recognition in the 1970s for his role as Tom Hagen, the legal advisor to a mafia family, in 'The Godfather' series.
In 'Apocalypse Now,' he left a lasting impression as Lieutenant Colonel Bill Kilgore, and he won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of an alcoholic singer in 'Tender Mercies.' He was nominated for the Academy Awards a total of seven times during his lifetime.
Duvall also appeared in films such as 'The Great Santini' and 'Deep Impact,' and won an Emmy for his role in the western 'Broken Trail.'
