Controversy Surrounds South Korean TV Personality Noh Hong-chul's Lion Photo in Africa
On October 15, an African travel agency's social media account referenced a post made by Noh Hong-chul on September 30.
In the post, Noh Hong-chul posed behind a sleeping lion and even jumped to touch the belly of a lion perched in a tree.
The travel agency questioned the state of the lion in Noh's post, stating, "Does this look normal?" and claimed, "This lion is drugged, despite attempts to portray it as simply sleeping."
The agency further alleged, "The reason the lion walks with sleepy eyes, can be touched, and does not resist even when its belly is hit is because it has been drugged."
They urged viewers to observe the lion's eyes and behavior, asserting that "these animals are lethargic and drowsy due to tranquilizers or sedatives. What are you doing to them?" highlighting concerns of animal abuse.
They expressed hope that such places would not develop into a horrific industry under the guise of a dreamlike experience, even tagging Noh Hong-chul's account directly.
As the controversy grew, netizens expressed concerns, saying, "Is animal abuse becoming a promotional tool for tourism?" and "It's shocking to hear that lions are slowly dying due to sedatives." However, some suggested that "Noh Hong-chul might also be a victim, unaware of the reality," urging caution.
Meanwhile, Noh Hong-chul continues to engage with fans through his personal YouTube channel and is currently appearing on the SBS variety show 'Manito Club.'
