"It would be a lie to say I wasn't worried at all. My fans were my biggest concern. They have always been my number one. They have loved and respected Oh My Girl's YooA. Even though Ha Kyung is just a character in a drama, I was worried about how my fans would react to such a different image."

YooA shared these thoughts during an interview at a café in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam, Seoul last month. Debuting in 2015 with the group Oh My Girl, YooA, born in 1995, crossed into her 30s last year. Known for her doll-like visuals, unique voice, and graceful dance moves, she has been a defining figure for Oh My Girl. In 2025, she announced her transition to acting, capturing attention once again.

As a central figure in her group and a solo artist, YooA has naturally been associated with the term 'born idol.' Her decision to pursue acting came as a surprise to many fans. The announcement of her exclusive contract with People Entertainment in June last year further fueled interest.

YooA's film debut is 'Project Y,' which premiered on the 21st. Directed by the filmmaker behind 'Park Hwa-young,' the movie also stars Han So-hee and Jeon Jong-seo, generating buzz. With such a notable cast and crew, YooA's first screen appearance as an actress heightened expectations. In the film, she plays a married character opposite Kim Sung-cheol, marking her first role as a 'married woman' since her debut.

Why did she choose this project despite her concerns? YooA explained, "I wanted to show a new side of myself as an actress. I saw it as an opportunity to deliver a fresh twist. Transitioning from idol to actress, I constantly pondered the most effective approach for me. While it might have been advantageous to choose a character similar to my existing image, I ultimately wanted to make a significant impact."

Throughout her decade-long career, YooA has maintained a unique image without becoming stale. Her ability to present an upgraded version of herself each time she appears highlights her competitive edge as an entertainer. YooA expressed, "I'm very grateful. My fans always have expectations rather than seeing me as familiar. This influences me to make bold choices rather than safe ones for my next steps."

YooA continued, "The director of 'Project Y' was the one who debuted me as a film actress. Before moving to People Entertainment, the director reached out to me when my contract with my previous company was nearing its end. He offered me the role of Ha Kyung." She added, "After various discussions during our meetings, I was able to achieve a special dream as an actress, thanks to the director."

She stated, "I try not to acknowledge fear. An actor's role is to embody a character and convey their story and emotions to the audience. To do this accurately, self-esteem and confidence are essential. When you respect yourself, your expressions, gestures, and overall performance come naturally."

YooA revealed, "Feeling fear can affect both daily life and acting. So, when negative emotions arise, I try to suppress them with excitement and anticipation." She continued, "Since I haven't been acting for long, it's less familiar than singing or dancing. However, it brings positive tension and excitement rather than fear. There are countless experiences to gain in the future. I believe my effort is the most important thing. That's why I consistently practice and take lessons."
