EXID's Hani's Fiancé, Psychiatrist Yang Jae-woong, Faces Legal Trouble Amid Patient Death Investigation
Yang Jae-woong, a psychiatrist and TV personality engaged to EXID member Hani, is reportedly set to be transferred to the prosecution.

On the 28th, a media outlet reported that "the police investigating the incident at Yang Jae-woong's hospital, where a patient died last year, plan to send Yang and 11 other medical staff to the prosecution." The report stated that the Gyeonggi Nambu Police Agency's Criminal Investigation Unit intends to forward all involved parties to the prosecution with charges.

Initially investigating seven individuals, the police added four more hospital staff to the case on the 19th for violating medical laws. These individuals are accused of providing medication to patients without a doctor's prescription, engaging in unauthorized medical practices. Those being sent to the prosecution include Director Yang, two attending physicians, two nurses, four nursing assistants, and two caregivers.

The incident dates back to May 27 of last year, when a woman in her 30s, identified as A, died while hospitalized at Yang's psychiatric facility. A was reportedly admitted for treatment of addiction to diet pills containing narcotics.

CCTV footage released by the victim's family showed A in an isolation room, clutching her stomach and pleading to be let out. Nurses and caregivers administered a sedative and restrained her hands, feet, and chest to the bed. Approximately two hours later, A's abdomen was swollen, and she was bleeding from the nose and gasping for air. The medical staff only released the restraints and left the room without further intervention. A subsequently passed away.

Meanwhile, Hani and Yang had announced their engagement in September last year, around the time of A's death, leading to a postponement of their wedding. Hani faced backlash on social media and withdrew from scheduled TV appearances.

Last month, on the 7th and 14th, Hani appeared on MBN's variety show 'Oh Eun-young's Stay' as a guest with the keyword 'awareness.' She shared, "I've realized that life doesn't always go as planned after going through various events recently. I've felt a lot of depression for the first time and heard comments like, 'Why choose a thorny path?'"
