Former UN Member Choi Jung-won Denies Stalking Allegations, Vows Legal Action

On August 20, Choi took to his social media to release a lengthy statement. He claimed, "The reported incident was a personal conflict between my girlfriend and me, which escalated from a minor argument into a misunderstanding."
He further clarified, "The term 'revelation' used by some to describe my girlfriend's actions is also a misunderstanding and does not align with the facts. The claims that I threatened with a weapon or engaged in stalking are completely false, and both my girlfriend and I categorically deny these allegations." Choi warned that he plans to take strong legal action against these false claims.
He concluded, "I sincerely apologize for any discomfort caused by the misunderstanding of my private life being reported as uncomfortable news. I promise to act more cautiously and responsibly in the future. I'm sorry."
The Seoul Central Police Station announced on August 19 that Choi Jung-won was booked on charges of violating the Stalking Crime Punishment Act on August 16. The court approved an emergency protective order the following day, which prohibits the perpetrator from approaching within 100 meters of the victim's residence or contacting them through electronic communication. Violating this order can result in a fine of up to 10 million won.
